Writing your CV can be painful. But why?
Why does it hurt so much? Why doesn’t it just trip off your fingertips onto the keyboard and into a magical, awe-inspiring document?
Here at Peaple Talent, we were reminded of this difficulty recently when asked to review someone’s CV. I had forgotten just how hard it can be to write your own CV.
It is so hard because it requires a great deal of self-reflection and talking about yourself in a way that is objective yet attractive to future employers. This means you need to engage with the self-centred, self-assured, self-aware you.
But that doesn’t solve the problem, does it?
What to leave in and keep out? Which details will employers like? I know I have learned skills but how do I describe it to future employers? All of these actions inspire procrastination.
So to help our candidates, myself and the team and are on hand to provide CV support. If you’re looking to take the next step in your technology career, you can now send us a copy of your CV and one of our professional CV reviewers who will assess it and email you with their suggestions as to how it could be improved to ensure it is viewed more positively by a prospective employer.
With hundreds of CVs to plough through, a prospective employer won’t initially spend more than about 10 seconds looking at each individual CV, and in a competitive hiring market cutting through is the key.
Here at Peaple Talent, we spend considerable time with both candidates and employers to help review CVs, but also to support hiring managers to find candidates with key cultural and behavioural attributes that don’t jump off the page. However, there really is no substitute for taking advantage of professional experience, which is why we offer free CV support.
One of our CV writers will mark your CV against a short-list of important first-impression criteria; from common mistakes to structure, formatting and presentation and deliver a review indicating what can be improved – and where.
